EU Funding for Computer Vision Startups in 2026

Computer vision companies can access EU grants across five programmes. Object detection, tracking, recognition, and imaging analysis are funded for both civilian and dual-use applications.

Your computer vision system detects defects on a production line. Or reads medical scans. Or tracks objects from drone footage. Whatever it does, the EU has grants for it. Computer vision is one of the most broadly funded AI categories because every sector needs it.

Where computer vision funding sits

Horizon Europe: funds R&D in visual perception, 3D understanding, multi-modal fusion, and real-time video analytics. Best for companies at TRL 3-6 developing new capabilities.

European Defence Fund: funds computer vision for autonomous systems, surveillance, target recognition, and situational awareness. 100% funded, up to €5M for SME-led projects. Your industrial inspection algorithm is what they call "automated threat detection" in a different context.

EIC Accelerator: funds scaling of computer vision products. Grants up to €2.5M. Now supports dual-use companies.

Digital Europe: funds deployment of working computer vision systems in real infrastructure. 50-75% funded. Good for companies with products ready to roll out.

National programmes: Germany (Cyberagentur), France (DGA Innovation), and others run computer vision specific calls.

The dual-use angle most founders miss

A system that detects cracks in wind turbine blades uses the same core technology as one that detects intrusions at a border. The algorithm doesn't know the difference. The EU funds both applications, and a company can use one grant to develop the technology and another to adapt it for a different use case.

If your computer vision works in challenging conditions (low light, weather, moving platforms), you qualify for even more programmes. Check your eligibility across all five funding sources.
