EU Funding for Aerospace Companies: Every Grant Available in 2026

European aerospace startups can access billions in EU grants across five programmes. Propulsion, avionics, materials, and MRO companies all qualify. Here is the complete funding map.

European aerospace has always been well-funded through ESA and national agencies. But most aerospace startups only know about one or two EU programmes. There are at least five that fund aerospace technology, and they cover everything from turbine blades to flight software.

Programme 1: European Defence Fund

EDF has a dedicated €35M+ call for new turbofan engines in the 25-35kN thrust class. But aerospace appears across many other calls too: unmanned aircraft systems, avionics for autonomous platforms, propulsion for UAVs, and materials for airframes. 100% funded, up to €5M for SME-led projects. Your civilian propulsion technology is what they need for the next generation of European unmanned systems.

Programme 2: Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking

€1.7B total budget focused on decarbonising aviation. Funds hybrid-electric propulsion, hydrogen combustion, sustainable aviation fuels integration, and ultra-efficient airframes. If you're building green aerospace tech, this is your primary programme. Funding rates of 70-100%.

Programme 3: Horizon Europe Cluster 5

Funds aerospace R&D under climate, energy, and transport. Advanced propulsion concepts, new materials, digital twins for aircraft, and autonomous flight systems. €500K to €4M per project.

Programme 4: EIC Accelerator

Grants up to €2.5M for scaling aerospace products. Now supports dual-use companies. Good for aerospace startups that have a working prototype and need to reach production.

Programme 5: National programmes

France (CORAC, DGA Innovation), Germany (LuFo), Spain (CDTI), and others run national aerospace funding. These stack with EU programmes, meaning you can hold grants from both simultaneously.

The stacking strategy

Use Clean Aviation for green propulsion R&D. Use EDF to adapt the same engine for unmanned platforms. Use EIC to scale production. Use national funding for prototyping. Four programmes, one technology, fully funded from concept to market.

EDF aerospace calls open April 2026. Clean Aviation runs calls throughout the year. Check which combination fits your technology.
